Blizzard has confirmed its next-generation MMO. It’s currently called, or at least referred to as, Titan, and it was first noticed in the leaked roadmap that surfaced a few days ago. The company isn’t too happy that the project’s existence leaked (a Blizzard China manager resigned in wake of the leak), and that it’s currently working on recruiting “the best talent in the industry” to help work on it. It spans five years and includes a 2013 release date for Titan. When pressed about the existence and plans for Titan, Blizzard executive Frank Pearce reluctantly gave some details. Brilliant anticipation marketing or was he really caught unawares. Regardless, Blizzard confirmed the existence of Titan and has described it as “our next gen MMO.” Pearce says the reason they were quite tight lipped about Titan was that they wanted to preserve some level of confidentiality, since they were in the process of “getting some of the best talent in the industry [for the project].” When asked if Titan was the final title for the project or merely a working title, Blizzard couldn’t say.
The only concrete detail about the game so far was that it has nothing to do with World of Warcraft. Completely different niche or setting or completely different altogether? Another Blizzard exec, Mike Morhaime, said that “[Titan is] not a sequel to World of Warcraft – we want to do something a bit different.” Now the question is… how do they define “different”? Would Titan be different in that it appeals to an older or more sophisticated crowd than World of Warcraft? WOW has been criticized before as populated, mostly by teenagers and younger gamers. I guess we’ll have to just wait and see. The next reveal for Titan is expected to be in 2012.
Please stay tuned if you want to know more about the new game. We will show you the latest news about it. And we are looking forward to see a new MMO besides World of Warcraft.
